SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN - SEASON 2
The first full length season of The Six Million Dollar Man features many of the trademarks we saw in the first season with the introduction of new ones that would become familiar to the audience. The bionic sound effect was used more as the season progressed. Oscar and Steve's friendship was becoming more solidified. Rudy Wells got more screen time, especially once Steve needed his help to make his fiance, Jamie Sommers into the world's first bionic woman.
The second season of The Six Million Dollar Man begins with Steve looking into the theft of equipment needed to build an atomic bomb. A recent auction of such a device has put the OSI on "Nuclear Alert." Soon, Steve finds himself trapped on a plane that's out of control with the device armed and must stop it before the plane is shot down. Oscar sends Steve and Rudy Wells into the woods to recover a downed spacecraft that contains two human test subjects in cryogenics. One of the astronauts gets out before he can be treated properly and roams through the forrest like a wild beast. Steve has to stop him before Oscar's secret experiment gets out to the world at large. Joining John and Paul is author/podcaster Kevin Lauderdale.
A plane carrying Steve, Senator Ed Hill, and the senator's son & aide is forced down in a storm as it makes its way to an investigative hearing into the senator's conduct during a recent flight. Steve is supposed to testify about the plane the senator was flying, but someone in the group is trying to make sure Steve doesn't make it out alive. Oscar is urging Steve to consider the words of his testimony, as the senator was responsible for pushing the funds through that made Steve bionic.
Steve must escort the prime minister of a small Middle Eastern country cross-country to the OSI research facility in Tennessee. There, she will undergo bionic heart transplant surgery. But there are forces conspiring to see her dead so that she cannot go through with her plans for peace with the rebel faction of her country. Steve learns of the existence of a second cyborg despite Oscar and Rudy's best attempts to keep the information from him. He is further disturbed to see that Oscar is intent on making this second bionic project work even though there are clear signs that Barney Miller (Monte Markham), the race car driver horribly injured in an accident, is not handling being bionic as well as Steve has managed to. Barney decides that he will make sure he is a unique being even if it means killing Rudy.
Strange lights in the sky on the eve of a rocket launch prompts Steve to investigate. When he discovers that the lights were from a UFO that crashed leaving its inhabitants stranded on Earth, it's up to Steve to make sure they find a way home while avoiding the authorities, including Oscar. Oscar Goldman has been missing for several days, missing out on a meeting with Steve and the joint chiefs of staff. Evidence is quickly mounting, suggesting Oscar may be involved with a scheme to mine millions of dollars in gold from a government mining operation. Steve is given the opportunity to test pilot the very vehicle that caused his accident. Oscar has his misgivings about the test as he has intelligence pointing to the accident as an act of sabotage. Steve is working with a team of scientists planting earthquake sensors on the ocean floor near the country of Santa Ventura. The country has broken diplomatic ties with the United States and the crew of the research vessel is unaware that they have drifted into Santa Ventura waters. The vessel is quickly taken by Santa Ventura authorities, the crew is arrested as spies, and Steve is trapped in a diving bel, cut away from the research vessel. Steve's plane crashes near the town of Broken Fork after his arm malfunctions. The malfunction brings amnesia and if not treated, death. Steve tries to discover his identity with the help of a psychologist who runs a clinic for mentally disturbed adults. The people of Broken Fork are scared of the patients and make every effort to run them out of town. Their fears increase with the arrival of the surprisingly strong Steve. An ambitious television reporter captures film footage of Steve in bionic action. She threatens to release the film unless she gets Steve's complete story. Oscar has one idea on how to handle it, but Steve has another - take her with them on vacation and convince her not to do what she's planning. What they all don't know is that her news director has bigger plans for her story, plans that will subsidize his early retirement, and he's willing to do almost anything to make it happen. Donna Mills guest stars as a cryptologist with dreams of competing in the Olympics who has her life threatened during the trial competition. Steve is sent to safeguard her, but there is a traitor from within the security force. Joining John and Paul is Geek Radio Daily host Billy Flynn.
A love from Steve's past comes back into his life and the two pick up their relationship where they left off. But when the woman's husband, a scientist thought dead, turns up very much alive and wanting to be reunited, it's a battle for Steve that bionics will not help. Steve is sent to recover a missing nuclear device on a remote island in the South Pacific. There, he must deal with a Japanese solider who thinks that his country is still at war with the United States. But this isn't the typical crazed solider thinks the war is still ongoing. Writer Judy Burns crafts a story that far surpasses people's expectations of this type of story. Joining John and Paul is science fiction author Robert J. Sawyer.
Dr. Dolenz returns for one final confrontation with Steve. This time, he's taking no chances as he replaces Oscar with one of his robot duplicates. As Steve's most trusted friend, the robot manipulates Steve into a trap which could kill him. But Steve has a few tricks up his sleeve, thanks to his friend Barney, the inventor. OSI secrets are disappearing and one of Steve's friends is accused of the theft. While he can't prove his friend's innocence, he knows there has to be another explanation.
